Good sushi and FAST! Most places i feel like we wait forever! But this place brought out the kiddos bento box in record time and sushi was not far behind. We had the amazing spider roll, superman burrito, rainbow roll, and crazy eel (different made with banana). This place is my new favorite...husband liked it but said Sushi Mido's wonder woman roll was still his favorite

My husband and I found Han Shin on a whim about two years ago. Boy did we get lucky! We sat at the bar and owners Bonnie and Tommie took amazing care of us! They were happy to make quality suggestions and brought out a few things for us to try just because they thought we may enjoy them. Han Shin is the ONLY sushi restaurant we go to now. The quality is amazing, and the owners are simply fantastic! We couldn't be happier. Having lived in San Francisco for several years - I'm blown away impressed by Han Shin's quality and dedication to phenomenal sushi! This is a gem!

Great sushi and hibachi!!! The owners are very kind people and clearly take a lot of pride in their food. The chef makes some if the most flavorful sushi I have ever had. I will certainly be back and tell everyone I know.

The decor is wonderful! It is clean and upscale, I know it's strange but I like hearing music that is associated with the ethnicity of the food I eat.

Delicious!!! We ordered the shrimp and chicken hibachi and it was great. We also ordered a couple sushi rolls which were good but nothing spectacular. The sushi rice was cooked well, but the rolls were overly saucey which covered the flavor of any actual ingredients. If I visit again I'll definitely stick with the grilled veggies, chicken and shrimp and fried rice hibachi! :) Staff was friendly and we made our reservation 2 hours prior to our 8pm seating for three at the grill.

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Had the Snow Cone Sushi Roll and it was delicious. The apple sake went down way too easily. Could find myself face down in an alley if I wasn't careful with how much I drink of this stuff. Definitely recommend this place. We are coming back and going to try the hibachi next time.

Having a hard time understanding the good reviews here. I think people have not had good sushi, clearly. Frankly, I have had better sushi from Dillon's grocery store. Crunch roll had a sickening sweet sauce on top, & shrimp was very overcooked. Tuna roll was acceptable, however. Miso soup tasted cheap and flavorless. Dressing on salad was very watery. Hubby's bento box was subpar: chicken was way overcooked, fried rice was not good. Will never be back here. I don't know why I go anywhere but Edokko.

The sushi was good. The have a new item called onion soup which was delicious and light. I also tried their pineapple rice with chicken and it was delicious.

Great place to go out with friends, family or just as a couple. Quiet environment, very nice staff. The sushi was amazing.

I live very close to Han so I have ordered "to go" a few times and I've dined in at least twice. I'm not sure why but I've never seen this place full, there's always a free table, if not two or three. I don't know if no one has discovered this place or they use to be bad and have renovated/stepped up their food game.. either way, I LOVE their sushi and the atmosphere. It's easy to place a pick up orders and it's ready in less that 20 min. They have exactly what I like, and most places I have to special order and I hate it, and I KNOW the chefs hate it! My favorite rolls are the Dragon roll (California roll topped with spicy tuna) and the Paradise Roll (Crunch roll w/ cream cheese and topped with crab).

Great sushi and a great setting. I had the "Perfect Roll" chef's special and it was delicious. I came in during Sunday lunch so there weren't many customers but the service was very good.

Ok, this is my third post for this place, but I have to post again because I think I have decided this is my favorite sushi place of all!

Make a reservation bc they only have 2 very small hibachi style tables, but wow it was good! Got there abt 30 min before our reservation so we had some cocktails and appetizers including a sushi roll. All very solid. When it came to the hibachi / teppanyaki style dinner, all 4 of of us loved it. Service was quick, friendly and reliable. Had some of the best scallops I've ever had. Fried rice was wonderful and my husband loved his steak. I heard others raving abour the calamari. I already can't wait to return! Love that this is in south joco as well.

Ughhh the worst sushi I have ever had in KC. I was expecting a lot fresher taste but the fish tasted old and stale. The "spicy mayo" was runny and had a bland taste. On one of my rolls the fish was mushy like it had been chewed and put it on top of the roll. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant to ANYONE!

We have been frequenting Han Shin for at least 3 years....and we must report that we have eliminated our other Sushi restaurants choices altogether and ONLY eat at Han Shin for our sushi dates! Bonnie & Tommy are both excellent hosts and chefs. We have our 'go to' menu items which are ALWAYS consistent & fresh. How do we know?? Well, we frequent costal cities and islands on our travels..and they say you can't get get any better sushi in those locations...well, we have that here in OP at Han Shin! If you want warm, friendly, accommodating service...skip the other sushi houses with attitude and eat here.

Great sushi and hibachi or if you want to set in a booth. The quality is top notch. This is my husband and my favorite place in Kansas City to get great sushi and/or hibachi. The atmosphere is amazing. The owners make you feel like you are their only customer.

Supremely average. Prices tended to be on the high side, foods that we have had and other sushi restaurants felt like they were built up more with on the necessary ingredients to make them look bigger. Ambience was nice, people were nice, some foods tended to taste a bit off.... Though the pieces per sushi roll was eight instead of six.

We stopped in for a mid-week dinner. The place was nearly empty but service was super-attentive. The lady who waited on us, who I think was probably one of the owners, was happy to make recommendations based on what we did or didn't typically like. Our first foray, by our own choice, was the calamari katsu roll. It is absurd. Tasty, huge, very heavy, and absurd. Everything appears to come with miso by default. Even the miso is heavy. After the soup and that roll, we only had room for one more roll and a piece of nigiri... at which point we needed to be rolled out. You definitely won't leave hungry.

Han Shin is my go-to place for a quick lunch with my husband and it's also a great place to take out-of-town guests. It pays to become a "regular" here ... Bonnie, the owner's wife, knows us and rather than order sushi, we let her surprise us. We have been there numerous times and have never been disappointed. Some of the rolls may sound odd (the one with banana comes to mind), but give it a chance and you may discover a new favorite.

FUN! It's fun to go here with groups. GET A RESERVATION. We waited over 1/2 an hour to be seated without one. OK, so we came here as a group and to watch them cook at our table and others. They toss some alchohol on the flames which shoots up and you can feel the heat. They toss a lot of stuff around. They'll even toss food at you and make you try to catch it in your mouth. Now, why did mom say you can't play with your food? KIDS LOVE THIS. So, they give you huge quantiies of food. You'll have leftovers. The food is a bit pricy, not amazingly tasting. The place was also cold. My friends enjoyed it, so I'll probably be back, but there are so many other places around as the previous reviewer said.

I was told to "pick someplace fabulous" for a recent office lunch outing. We went to Han Shin, and it was fabulous. I work right across the street, but never knew this place was there - it is kind of tucked away in the back corner of a new strip mall (anchored by Dickey's BBQ on one end and Frida's Mexican Restaurant on the other). The interior is quiet and cozy. There were not many people there. We were seated at the Teppanyaki grill and cooked for/entertained by Teppanyaki chef Arturo. I've seen flashier and better Teppanyaki chefs, but Arturo did fine. My sidekicks all ate grilled meals and said they were very good. I ordered two sushi rolls: a Sapporo Roll that consisted of Salmon and avocado on crab meat with asparagus, and a Spicy Tuna Roll, which is your typical spicy tuna. The fish was fresh and flavorful, and the rice nicely seasoned with vinegar. They were served with nice drizzles of Rooster sauce (Sriracha) and a brown spicy sauce on the plate, along with your typical green wasabi paste (horseradish) and the whitest slices of ginger I've ever seen. The waitress (who I was later told was the owner's wife) was very attentive, knowledgeable and efficient, and asked us for feedback, which I found very rare and refreshing. She brought me two Japanese Tempura ice creams (green tea and red bean) which I had never had before. They were coated in rice flour and flash fried. Nothing like Mexican fried ice cream, but were very tasty. I liked the floral note and astringent qualities of the green tea better than the red bean, which was definitely sweeter. Prices were pretty standard for lunch in the area. Teppanyaki dishes ranged from $ 8 to $ 16. The rolls were $ 13 and $ 12, respectively, and had about 8 pieces each. I will be going back here more often - but not on Mondays, when they are closed.

Han Shin is a hidden treasure of awesome Sushi in Overland Park. Ambiance was good for a small Sushi dinner . They had booths available. Sushi was great! And they give you free Miso soup. The noodles entree Yudon was AMAZING! Great flavors !! The only thing was waitress didn't seem like she could help out much with the authentic sushi recommendations. She wasn't Japanese so don't blame her. Oh and don't forget to try out their japenese dumplings.

This was my second time here. Both times have been very good. One was take out and last night was dine in. The servers are excellent. There were quite a few regulars in last night that were greeted by name - which is always a sign of good service I feel. My favorite "roll" so far is the superman burrito. It is delicious and I haven't seen the burrito sushi option at any other KC sushi places I go to. The Energizer Roll was also quite good. And rounding out the top three was the crunch roll - however, I can't remember which one we ordered. I think it was the crab crunch roll.

Well, after a couple of years of having insanely cheap lunch specials, I think they were finally forced to raise their prices a bit. No doubt their costs have gone up. $8 for the bento box, or $10 for the two-roll lunch combo, is still a pretty unbelievable value. And the service & presentation is still the best I've experienced in the greater KC area.

My wife and I just had lunch at Han Shin for the first time, in their new location (right near our house). The sushi was amazing. For eight years I've heralded a sushi place in LA as the best I've had, now Han Shin takes the title. Our server was courteous, didn't rush us and didn't try to up-sell like I read below was going on 3 years ago. I can only guess that was an individual server. Adriene was really helpful and explained several of the dishes. We had the crispiest - and largest - calamari & veggie tempura we've ever seen. The rolls were amazing and generous for the price. We got two rolls, each had some of both, and brought half home for dinner. The Calamari Katsu roll was very tasty and had great texture. The Monkey Brain roll (hilarious name, probably for the spicy tuna tar tar on top) was also quite good, even if a little hard to handle with chopsticks. The spice on both was perfect, and for the first time ever, I didn't feel I needed to add heat with wasabi (I did anyway out of habit). We took menus for our respective offices and I plan to entertain clients and guests there. Being in a new strip mall, the facade is deceptively uniform with the other shops, and you'd never expect the interior to be as classy as it is. The owner chatted with us on the way out and was incredibly friendly. If you're on a budget Han Shin is a great place to go for lunch or dinner. One of the lunch specials for $8 includes miso soup, salad and two rolls (six to choose from). The other more elaborate rolls, like the ones we had, are all in the $8-$12 range with one roll at $13. However they're not small - one roll is plenty for an entire meal. Highly recommended!

This is my favorite sushi restaurant...hands down. The rolls are amazing and delightfully creative, spectacular service and the PLUM WINE MARTINIS are out of this world. I've never had a bad experience, very intimate setting and rarely overcrowded or loud (which makes me think this place is often overlooked). You can go to RA and be merely satisfied (subpar drinks and less than creative rolls) or you can go to Han Shin and be WOWED!

How nice to find solid sushi just 3 weeks after moving from the east coast. I came for lunch alone- the sushi lunch roll combos didn't have the combos I wanted, and they were charging $4 to sub out a cali roll for a yellowtail roll :( so instead I ordered off the a la cart roll menu and tried the funky eel roll- contains banana tempura, cream cheese, topped with avocado and eel- tasty! Also had the tuna lovers roll- spicy tuna and the inside, lightly broiled tuna on top with a very good spicy/zesty sauce. While i waited the waitress (and possibly owner?) Came over with a free bowl of delicious miso soup. She was so attentive and kind. The ambiance is mixed: nice decor with great lighting, but then there's the tvs and japanese pop music . But, the service was warm and the food was great, and return I will, so 4 stars it is!

I must admit, I wasn't expected much for a Sushi place in a strip mall in OP, but I was shocked at the excellent quality of their seafood! My lunch date and I split a couple of rolls that were chef creations that were not on the menu. We also had some tuna nigiri as an appetizer. Huge portions and super fresh and yummy. My only complaint was that the rolls were not rolled very well at all and we had to use forks on more than one occasion. The place is decorated nicely, but the music selection was pretty funny. Not funny ha ha, but WTF? kind of funny. Think 6th grade middle school dance music. I'll def. go back,. Here's hoping for tighter rolls and a new Pandora playlist...

Husband had been here a couple of times for lunch with other people, but it was the first visit for me and we tried the dinner hour. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and decor and the staff was super friendly. I have to say that we ordered too much and that might be my only complaint for the staff - she could have politely let us know how much food was coming. She neglected to let us know that miso soup came with our meal and so we both ordered a salad first. I love Spicy Crab Salad and it's generally my comparison dish between restaurants. Their version had a little too much tempera and so therefore, was not my favorite. My husband had nigiri and thought it was very fresh tasting. We also ordered two rolls (back to the ordered too much comment!) and had the Monkey Brain roll which had great flavor but was just very messy and tried a garlic type roll that was their special that day. I probably wouldn't order the those specific rolls or salad again, but I would go back and try something else, just because everything seemed so fresh. I gave them 4 stars because my husband was very happy with his selections and I think I just need to ask more questions about the rolls before I order next time.

Consistently good sushi and service. The place is clean and very well decorated. I recommend trying the tekkamaki roll. The staff is always attentive and ready with great recommendations.

I'll eat here - but I like Jun's better for sushi and at least there the servers don't try to hustle your bill up for a better tip! My mom, sister and I told the hostess we wanted to eat sushi and were lead to their cooking tables where the groups sit and have shrimp flung at their faces - a fun dinner if you're in the mood - but we were not. We had to eat around their planned meal and it was not something we requested. Also, it was difficult to watch food being prepared that we were not eating - because after the fried rice was fried, I inherently felt a little of it belonged to me. But it didn't. Our server was a cheesy, Town Center, Aquinas goon - fast talking and SUV driving and to make a long story short he wormed our menus out of our hands so fast we didn't know how much the additionals he kept insisting we get actually were - and let's just say they were the most expensive additionals. We ended up handing over about $30 more than anticipated - he was so damn SLIMY!!! My mom was initially irritated with his persistence for us to get this and buy that and add this and up that - she whispered to me how creepy he was in my ear - and I should have listened to her. But then, of course, I took the attractive server's side, who was my age and handsome - silly me. Next time I want to be swindled, I'll go back to Chinatown - I don't need the son of a Leawood lawyer to stick me with a bill he up-sold to the hundredth degree! The sushi was good but I could, the soup was good, the ginger salad was good, the additionals were GREAT, but there are better places to go for the same if not better. Hibachi on the Plaza will take care of you, Jun's sushi will take care of you - Han Shin employs smarmy teens who want your cash cold!!!

Han Shin is a wonderful place to eat no matter the occasion. I went with my family this past weekend and the food was delicious. I got the HIbachi chicken and shrimp and not only was the food great, the experience was even better. The chef was a lot of fun and had some cool tricks I had not seen before. We went with my nephew who is 3 and the chef was great with him as well, I never thought Hibachi could be so good for kids but he loved it. We tried the Monkey Brain Sushi Roll for an appetizer and while the name might sound a little weird, it was spectacular. This is a place I plan on coming back to for the sushi and the hibachi.. perfect for families, date night or a night out with friends.

What a great new menu and venue! An excellent place to go for a fun and delicious family dining experience. The sushi is a great addition and we were truly entertained by the hibachi chef. The food was exceptional - very fresh and flavorful. We will look forward to returning and honing our skills at catching the flying shrimp.

This is probably the worst experience I ever had. The food was not great, and was overpriced. We had issues with he bill and they were not ready to listen to us for clarification either. Will never recommend friends.
